About these Images

Effective management of the economy provides people with jobs, services and leisure opportunities, together with the infrastructure required to support people wherever they may live. We live in a world where economic opportunity is not equal, a world that sees economic migrants moving from the countryside to the city, from the city to a more prosperous country, and sometimes from the city back into the countryside. Much manufacturing industry has left the more prosperous countries to locate in the less developed world where labour is cheaper and resources more readily available. Some services like call centres are also moving into new regions, released from their traditional locations as a result of new communication technologies. At present the economic disparity evident in our world is probably at a level that risks de-stabilising political systems, with those who have the most intent on protecting themselves from those who have the least, in order to maintain their high living standards.
